Yet one of the most essential professions in filmmaking remained largely invisible to the public—the Casting Director.
A Casting Director is the first to shape a film’s future ensemble, working closely with the director to find the perfect actors to bring the screenplay’s characters to life. Casting Directors discover new talent, identify the right performers for each role, and often play a decisive role in defining the artistic identity of a film or television series. Behind every successful production lies an immense amount of work devoted to searching for, selecting, and bringing together a cast that functions as a single creative ensemble. Although this work rarely receives public recognition, it forms one of the cornerstones of every outstanding screen production.

In 2023, the first Guild of Casting Directors of Russia Awards Ceremony took place—the first professional award in the country’s history dedicated entirely to the art of casting and ensemble performance.
From the very beginning, the organizers adopted a fundamental principle: the winners would be chosen not by journalists, critics, or public voting, but by the professional community of Casting Directors through a confidential ballot.
This approach established the Award as an independent professional recognition of excellence, honoring outstanding achievements by actors, creative ensembles, and the projects they bring to life.

Over the past few years, the Guild of Casting Directors of Russia Award has become one of the film industry’s most prominent professional events.

Each year, the Awards Ceremony brings together actors, directors, producers, screenwriters, and representatives of the country’s leading film studios, streaming platforms, and television networks. The winners are selected through a confidential vote by Russia’s leading Casting Directors, ensuring that the results reflect the highest standards of professional expertise, independence, and peer recognition.
